Graduation Requirements

TOTAL CREDIT The classes are required to have twenty-four (24) credits to graduate from Indian Creek High School. Academic courses are either one (1) or one-half (1/2) credit. All Indian Valley Vocational Center courses are one and one-half (1 1/2) credits per semester or a total of three (3) for the entire year.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION All students at Indian Creek High School must be enrolled in Physical Education classes for each semester they are enrolled unless exempted by administration.

ENGLISH (4 credits) Four credits are required for graduation

INTENSE-WRITING CLASSES (2 credits) Two credits are required for graduation beggining with the class of 2009.

SPEECH (1/2 credit) This course will be required for graduation

MATHEMATICS (3 credits) Beginning with the class of 2009, three credits in math will be required for graduation.

SCIENCE (2 credits) Two credits are required for graduation. One must be in the Physical Sciences area and one must be in the Life Sciences area.

SOCIAL SCIENCE (3 credits) Three credits are required for graduation. Students during their junior year will be required to take United States History for one credit and during their Senior year take one semester of Modern America for one-half credit and one semester of Governmental Systems for one-half credit. Students must pass the Constitution exam in order to meet graduation requirements. Transfer students must pass or show evidence of having passed the U. S. History course, the Constitution Exam, and the Illinois Constitution Exam. A third credit in social sciences must be taken in the area of World Geography. Starting with the class of 2008, World Geography will be a requirement for graduation.

CONSUMER EDUCATION (1/2 credit) This course is required for graduation. Students have three (3) options to fulfill this course obligation. They may take the course in Consumer Education, they may take the course in the Career Internship class, or they may pass the Consumer Education proficiency test which is offered twice a year but can be taken only once a year. A student interested in the proficiency test should contact the high school guidance counselor for information. Transfer students must take or show evidence of having met the legal requirement for graduation in the area of Consumer Education.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (1/4 credit per semester) A student is required to be enrolled in Physical Education for each semester of attendance. Students are required to pass eight semesters of Physical Education (Health and Driver Education each count as one semester of P.E.) unless excused by the Principal.

HEALTH EDUCATION (1/2 credit) Students must take Health Education for one semester during their sophomore year.

FINE ARTS, FOREIGN LANGUAGE, OR VOCATIONAL EDUCATION (1 credit) Students are required to earn one credit in one of these subject areas to fulfill graduation requirements.

ELECTIVE CREDITS Students must earn additional credits to fulfill graduation requirements. This is done through elective courses. See the course description booklet for these courses.
