Social Studies

Governmental Systems
Course Description

All high school seniors must take and pass this one semester class in order to graduate. The fundamental principles and operation of the U.S. national, state and local government will be emphasized. Comparisons with other systems will be made to help the student better understand and appreciate the U.S. system and culture. The individual's role as a member of various interest groups, the role of political parties, and the fact that a knowledgeable citizenry must participate in a republic such as ours, if it is to survive, will be stressed. A state-required test on the U.S. and Illinois constitutions is given as a part of this course.
