This is a broad survey course covering the development of human civilization
through representative sampling of the past cultures. Various aspects of
human society will be traced from the "Dawn of Civilization" through
the "Age of Absolutism." Some of the areas studied are the first
civilizations of Africa and Asia (3200 BC-500 BC), early civilizations and
empires in India, China, and Japan (2500 BC-550 BC), ancient Greece (1750
BC-133 BC), Ancient Rome (509 BC-476 BC), ancient America (1400 BC-1570
AD), rise of Europe (500-1300 AD), the middle ages (1050 AD-1450 AD), the
Byzantine Empire and Russia (330-1613 AD), the Muslim world (622-1650 AD),
Renaissance and Reformation (1300-1600 AD), Ocheanic Exploration (1415-1796
AD), and the Age of Absolutism (1550-1800 AD).
