Spain Trip

Next June, 17 members of Spanish Club will be traveling to Spain. The group will be departing from O'Hare Airport on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 and will return on Friday, July 8, 2005. The itinerary is as follows:

Day-By-Day Itinerary

Day 1-2 : Transatlantic Flight Jet through the night to Spain, arriving in Madrid on Day 2. Your bilingual EF Tour Director greets you at the airport and then leads you on our EF walking tour. Stroll through the Puerta del Sol (Gate of the Sun), once the main entrance to the city. Continue to the Plaza Mayor. Then visit the world-renowned Prado museum. Look for Velázquez’s self-portrait and Goya’s scandalous Naked Maja.

Day 3 : Madrid On your guided tour of Spain's capital, view the Neoclassical architecture that characterized the 18th-century reign of Bourbon King Philip V. Then visit the Palacio Real, an elaborate palace that took 40 years to build—and a century to furnish.

Day 4-5 : Cordoba - Seville Pass through Puerto Lápice and stop at Córdoba's Mezquita, the largest mosque west of Mecca. After arriving in Seville, discover the alluring rhythms and movements of Spain's traditional dance form at our optional Flamenco Evening. On Day 5, take a guided tour of Seville, Spain's only river port. See the city's cathedral and 14th-century Alcázar. Then, embark on your trip to the Costa del Sol.

Day 6-7 : Costa del Sol - Morocco - Granada Opt to cross the Straits of Gibraltar to Morocco, or relax on the beaches of the Costa del Sol. On Day 7, continue on to Granada, at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Recall the mystical world of Washington Irving's Arabian Nights as you tour Granada's Moorish Alhambra.

Day 8-9 : Madrid Transfer to Madrid via the ancient town of Toledo, the former capital of Spain. In the Church of Santo Tomé, view El Entierro del Conde Orgaz, one of El Greco's supreme achievements. You'll also visit St. Mary's Synagogue, Toledo's cathedral, and a local damascene workshop. On Day 9, spend free time in Madrid or opt to join an excursion to the university town of Salamanca.

Day 10 : Depart for home Depart for home.
